BATESVILLE, Ark.
– The Lyon College Pipers broke a five-year victory
drought against the Martin Methodist Lady RedHawks with
a 3-2 victory Saturday in TranSouth Conference play at
Becknell Gym.
Lyon won 30-28, 27-30, 30-21, 30-28 and 15-9 notching
the first win versus the RedHawks in Piper Head Coach
Justin Dee's Lyon College tenure.
The triumph moves the Pipers to 13-10 overall and 7-5
inside the TranSouth Conference. Martin Methodist (16-8,
11-2) suffers only its second conference loss of the
season, breaking an seven-game conference win streak.
Lyon got a stellar afternoon from outside hitters Lauren
Castleberry and Daria Paunovic and got a big day from
middle blocker Katie Beineke.
Castleberry, a sophomore from Bono, Ark., earned a
team-high 22 kills, had 25 digs and three service aces.
Paunovic added 16 kills, two solo blocks and 18 digs.
Beineke pitched in 17 kills and two solo blocks.
Piper junior libero Ann Sullivan added a team-high 35
digs and senior setter Julie Arnold had a team-best 32
assists and four aces. Jessica Sylvester also added 31
assists.
