JONESBORO — The Lyon College Pipers' volleyball team announced the signing of middle hitter Heather Gottfried of Valley View High School.

Gottfried finished last season with 143 kills, 156 blocks and 358 digs and earned all-state and all-state tournament honors.

Lyon College head volleyball coach Justin Dee expects Gottfried to help at a number of positions in her freshman year.

Dee said that she could play in the middle or on the right side for the Pipers, as well as logging some time as a defensive specialist.

Last season, the Pipers finished 19-14 and made their first-ever regional tournament appearance.
