The Lyon College Pipers
started strong and finished stronger in a 3-2 victory
over the Williams Baptist College Lady Eagles on Monday
evening in a nonconference affair at Becknell Gymnasium.
Lyon College (7-1) roared
through the first set 30-22, but then dropped the next
two games 30-27 and 30-26 to fall behind 2-1 in the
match.
No matter.
The Pipers shrugged off
the deficit, then buzz-sawed the Lady Eagles in games
No. 4 and 5, winning 30-21 and 15-8, respectively, to
win their seventh match in eight tries.
Williams Baptist drops to
2-3 this season.
Junior outside hitter
Daria Paunovic led the Pipers with 21 kills and added 19
digs. Alison Sablick and Lauren Castleberry had 12 kills
each.
Libero Ann Sullivan
topped Lyon College in digs with 26 and had four aces.
Jessica Sylvester was the team leader in assists with
39.
Lyon College hits the hardwood again on Saturday
to play in the Rhodes College Tournament in Memphis, Tenn.
