JACKSON, Tenn. – With a
flurry of 51 kills and only nine errors as a team, the
Lyon College Pipers rolled into enemy territory and
ended the Union University Lady Bulldogs’
season-opening, 11-match winning streak Thursday with a
3-0 TranSouth Conference sweep.
"The girls played
unreal," said Pipers' head coach Justin Dee. "I believe
Union is one of the best teams in our conference, and to
come in here and get a win was just as big as it gets."
Lyon took the match
30-21, 30-25 and 30-26 to run its record to 9-3 overall
and a perfect 2-0 in the TranSouth. Union fell to 11-1
and 3-1 in the league.
"We didn't make many
mistakes at all," said Dee. "We hit really well as a
team and there were plenty of zeroes in the error
column."
Junior
Daria Paunovic had 16
kills and 2 solo blocks to lead Lyon, while teammate
Katie Beineke of Jonesboro had 8 kills, zero errors and
2.5 blocks. Sophomore libero Ann Sullivan had 18 digs
