The Freed-Hardeman Lady
Lions got a 3-0 road sweep on Thursday, but not without
a final fight from the Lyon College Pipers in a
TranSouth Match at Becknell Gymnasium.
Freed-Hardeman cruised
through the first two games 30-18 and 30-22, but had to
battle Lyon shot for shot to earn the match victory in a
thrilling 39-37 final set.
Lauren Castleberry led
the Pipers in kills with 10. Piper teammate Julie Arnold
paced the team in assists with 21 and Ann Sullivan
picked up a team-high 21 digs to go with two aces. Lyon
middle blocker Katie Beineke had nine kills and junior
outside hitter Daria Paunovic had six kills and three
aces.
The Pipers drop to 15-8
overall and are third in the TranSouth, sporting a 7-5
league record. Freed-Hardeman jumps to 18-2 overall and
sits second in the conference with an 8-2 record.
