CONWAY -- Lyon College's Scots had 25 shots on goal while holding Central
Baptist College to just two shots in Tuesday's 2-0 shutout of the Mustangs at
Conway.
Scots coach Jeremy Bishop was happy his club, which improves to 1-1-0 this
season, got on the winning side of the ledger but wished his team could have put
a couple more shots in with the large number of chances.
"We had plenty of chances," said Scots coach Jeremy Bishop. "We held
possession 80 percent of the game. We just couldn't get the ball in the net. But
it's a win."
Freshman Greg Buford drew first blood for the Scots in the 23rd minute
when his kick sailed past the CBC goalkeeper and found the back of the net. Tim
Akin assisted on the Buford goal, presenting the Scots with a 1-0 advantage.
Scots' senior Peter Smith added to the leading tally later in the half
when he swiped a pass and took it the distance for an unassisted goal in the
31st minute.
Unlike last Friday, when the Scots gave up a 2-0 cushion to Missouri-St.
Louis, Lyon College didn't waiver and closed the Mustangs out for the shutout
victory.
Dustin Horton (1-0-0) earned the win and the shutout in goal for the
Scots.
The Scots are now idle until Sept. 4, when they play host to
Campbellsville at Lyon College Soccer Field.
