JACKSON, Tenn. --
A balanced scoring slate yielded the Lyon College Scots'
biggest win of the season -- a 75-63 triumph over the
NAIA's No. 22-ranked Union Bulldogs, Monday evening in a
TranSouth Conference road game.
Lyon had a quartet of players in double figures led by
senior forward Levi Taylor with 16 points. Scots guard
Trey Salley added 15 points and six boards.
Jonathan Donaldson pitched in 13 points for the Scots
and teammate Charles Black had 12 points and a team-high
seven rebounds. Preston Butts also notched nine points
for the victorious Lyon club.
Lyon (7-5 overall, 1-1 in TranSouth play) topped Union
(7-5, 1-1) for the first time since March 4, 2004. The
Scots were 68-67 winners in overtime back in 2004 at
Becknell Gym, but Monday needed only regulation to steal
a win on the Bulldogs' home floor.
Union's Matt Neaville, who was leading NAIA Division I
in scoring with a 29.1 points per game average, was held
to just 13 points. Bulldog forward Brian Lake led all
scorers and recorded a double double of 18 points and 13
rebounds.
The Scots shot lights out from the field with a 51
percent field-goal shooting night and held Union to a
paltry 31.3 percent from field-goal range.
Coach Kevin Jenkins' Scots led 32-26 at the half and
held on in the second stanza to finish 12 points better
than the Bulldogs.
