Lyon College snaps
three-game TranSouth
losing streak
BATESVILLE, Ark. -- The Lyon College Scots snapped a
three-game TranSouth Conference losing streak with an
86-72 triumph over the Crichton College Comets Saturday
at Becknell Gym.
Lyon (11-15, 5-11) had lost their three previous league
games by an average of 13 points, but Saturday, the team
came out hitting on all scoring cyllinders.
Scots' junior forward Preston Butts was the game's
high-scorer with 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the
field and 2 of 3 from the line. The Memphis, Tenn.,
standout also had a game-high five assists and four
steals.
Guard
Jonathan Donaldson added 17 points and a team-high six
rebounds. Levi Taylor added 13 points and Charles Black
pitched in 11.
Coach
Kevin Jenkins' Scots trailed 39-32 at the half, but were
hot in the second half -- shooting 62.5 percent (15 of
24) from the floor. Lyon scored on 53.4 percent in the
game, compared to Crichton's 47 percent.
Stanley Brownlee paced Crichton (15-12, 9-8) with 17
points and eight rebounds. Teammate Sylvania Watkins
added 14 points and nine boards.
Scots Game Notes • In
the two team's last meeting at Memphis, Tenn., Crichton
was an 83-81 winner on a last-second shot by Derek
Boykin. Boykin was injured and didn't play Saturday
night.
