Lyon College’s sixth
all-time scoring basketball player dreamed of being a
professional player, and he’s made that dream come true.
Norris Weintz, a 6’6”
forward from Little Rock, who played at Lyon from
2003-2006,- recently joined the Waltrop team in the
Third Division of German Professional Basketball.
He arrived in Germany on
Aug. 14 and played his first game Sept. 2.
His new head coach, Boris
Kaminsky, found him on the Eurobasket Web site and
signed him after looking at his play on DVD.
“It’s weird over here.
They don’t have college basketball, so it’s like a club
team,” Weintz said. “I just happened to be the type of
player they were looking for.”
While at Lyon, his honors
as a basketball player included:
• 2005 NAIA All-American
Scholar/Athlete.
• Member of the All-TranSouth
First Team in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
• 2004 and 2006 NAIA
All-American honorable mention.
• 2003 All-TranSouth
Freshman Team.
Choosing Lyon was a
pragmatic decision for him in the beginning, he
admitted, though once he was here he immediately knew
he’d made the right decision.
“One of he reasons I
chose Lyon was because they offered me a scholarship,”
Weintz said. “But Lyon’s outstanding reputation as high
quality school was definitely another factor in my
coming (there).”
