HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lyon College Scots
battled for two halves, behind inspired play from
juniors Levi Taylor and Jonathan Donaldson, but fell to
0-3 in the TranSouth Conference with an 82-69 loss to
the Freed-Hardeman Lions Thursday evening at the Sports
Center.
Taylor led the Scots in scoring and
rebounding for the second consecutive game. The junior
forward notched his second double-double in as many
days, accounting for a 19-point, 10-rebound effort.
Donaldson added 18 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the
field, but the duo couldn’t overcome a balanced scoring
slate from the Lions.
Lions Kristoffer Smith, Shun Trevillian,
Tyler Jennings and Wesley Mayes all scored in double
figures during the victory. Smith led the team with 16
points, Trevillian added 14 and Jennings and Mayes
pitched in 12 and 10, respectively.
Freed-Hardeman outgunned Lyon in the
field-goal shooting department, shooting 46 percent to
the Scots’ 43 percent. Lyon hit on only 3-of-17 (17.6
percent) 3-point attempts compared to the Lions’ 7-of-20
(35 percent).
The Lions held a 20-12 edge in turnovers
forced, but were out-rebounded on the glass by the Scots
24-22.
Free-throw shooting spelled the
difference between the two clubs as Freed-Hardeman
scored on 17-of-19 (89.5 percent) charity attempts,
while Lyon hit on 12-of-20 (60 percent).
The Scots drop to 9-6 overall and 0-3 in
the league. Freed-Hardeman improves to 5-10 and 3-0.
