BATESVILLE -- A
second-half, 3-point
shooting barrage by the Central Baptist College Mustangs
turned a potential laugher into a thriller. But the Lyon
College Scots managed avoid a letdown and held off the
Mustangs for a 76-70 victory Tuesday evening in the
Scots home opener at Becknell Gymnasium.
Lyon (2-1) led 44-27 at
the half and by as many as 21 points early in the second
half. However, CBC (0-1) rallied behind 9-of-16 shooting
from the arc and closed within two, 72-70, with :54 left
on the clock.
CBC wouldn't score again
as Lyon iced the game with a bucket and a pair of free
throws from forward Levi Taylor.
Taylor was one of five
Scots scorers in double figures with 19 points, shooting
8-of-12 from the field. Jonathan Donaldson added an
all-around line with 16 points, eight assists and six
rebounds.
Brett Parker led the CBC
charge with a game-high 22 points and shot 6-of-7 from
the 3-point arc, but fouled out with 1:05 remaining in
the game.
Lyon's Charles Black
finished his third straight game in double scoring
digits with 11 points and had a game-high eight
rebounds. Preston Butts and center Brandon Thomas
rounded out the Scots in double figures with 11 and 10
points, respectively.
