MILLINGTON, Tenn. --
Taylor Bates' two-out, run-scoring single in the bottom
of the ninth gave the Martin Methodist RedHawks a 5-4
victory over the Lyon College Scots Wednesday in the
loser's bracket of the TranSouth Conference Tournament
at USA Field.
Lyon is eliminated from
the double-elimination tournament and ends its season at
28-20. Martin Methodist improves to 31-21-1 and advances
to the next round.
Scots' centerfielder Nick
D'Amico led his team's 11-hit attack with a single, a
triple and two RBIs. Drew Kellums, Sam Neal, Kody Cox
and Zac Wallace each had two hits apiece. Kellums ends
his Lyon College career with 168 hits, tied with Mike
Sanchez for fourth place on the school's career list.
Derek Bond (5-6) pitched
8 1/3 innings and scattered 13 hits for the Scots.
Bond walked two and struck out four. The senior recorded
his 100th career strikeout with his first K of the game
and settled on 103 for his career - 10th on Lyon's
all-time list.
