MILLINGTON, Tenn. -- The
No. 2 seed Lambuth Eagles spotted the No. 7 seed Lyon
College Scots an early lead, but couldn't make up the
difference late in a 6-4 Scots' victory Monday in the
first round of the TranSouth Conference Baseball
Tournament at USA Stadium.
The Scots (28-18) jumped
out to a 6-1 lead after five inninngs, and thanks to a
stellar bullpen performance, held on to collect the
victory -- Kirk Kelley's 495th career win as head coach
of Lyon College.
Kelley's club plays again
on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against No. 6 seed Freed-Hardeman
in the second round of the tournament. Lambuth falls to
29-20 and will also play Tuesday in the loser's bracket
against No. 3 seed Union at 10 a.m.

Nick Salahub combined for 3 1/3 innings of scoreless
relief in place of starter Justin McGarity. Brock

Salahub notched his school-record tying seventh save of
the season with 1 1/3 innings of relief with a
strikeout.
McGarity (8-4) pitched 5
1/3 innings for the win, scattering nine hits and
allowing four earned runs. The Jonesboro, Ark., product

with 27. He is just win short of tying the Lyon College
record for career victories, held by Phillip May.

as a team, led by two each from second baseman Justin
Brown and third baseman Andy Schatzley. Right fielder
Zac Wallace drove in two runs, while teammates Kody Cox,
