Scots throttle Texas College
in twinbill season opener
TYLER, Tex -- The Lyon
College Scots rapped out 29 total hits and scored 30
runs in a doubleheader sweep of Texas College Saturday
in the Scots' season opener.
Lyon
(2-0) shot out of the gate in game one of the double
dip. The Scots scored seven runs in the first, collected
15 hits total and cruised to a 17-4 five-inning triumph.
First
baseman Drew Kellums toted the heavy lumber for the
Scots with a perfect 3-for-3 day. The Paragould, Ark.
native homered, tripled, scored four times and drove in
a run.
Right
fielder Sam Neal also had a big 4-for-4 day with three
runs and three RBIs. Justin Brown and Andy Schatzley
also had two hits apiece. Schatzley and Nick Salahub
drove in two runs each.
Starter
Justin McGarity (1-0) pitched three innings, struck out
five and walked zero in a two-hit victory.
The Scots
poured it on in game two, but a little later than game
one's fast start, earning a 13-5 decision.
Lyon got
14 hits in the doubleheader finale, but had to overcome
a 4-3 deficit in the top of the fifth with a seven-run
inning.
Brown was
3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two ribbies. Kellums
was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI and pinch hitter
Garry Richards picked up his first two hits as a Scot
with a 2-for-2 outing. Catcher Jason Danoff drove in
three runs to round out the highlights of the Lyon
offensive attack.
Derek
Bond (1-0) took the win on the mound, pitching 4 1/3
innings of eight-hit ball. He struck out three and
walked three.
