Lyon College takes TranSouth series
from Martin Methodist
PULASKI, Tenn. --
Andy Schatzley homered and drove in four runs to lead
the Lyon College Scots to a 10-4 victory over the Martin
Methodist RedHawks in game one of a TranSouth Conference
doubleheader split.
Lyon (19-9, 4-4) lost the
second game 5-3 in extra innnings, but took 2 games out
of 3 during the weekend series. Martin shifts to 18-12
overall and 6-5 in league play.
Schatzley picked up three
hits and scored a run to pace the Scots 13-hit, game-one
output. Scots' center fielder Nick D'Amico stole four
bases and rapped two hits. Sam Neal homered and drove in
two runs, while teammate Kody Cox hit a solo shot.
The game-one victory
pushes Lyon Head Coach Kirk Kelley's career victory
total to 486, just 14 shy of 500 career victories.
Derek Bond (3-2) was the
game-one winner on the mound, tossing seven complete
innings of six-hit ball with four strikeouts and two
walks.
In game two, the Scots
were out-hit 12-4, but managed a 3-3 tie score until the
top of the ninth. Martin plated two runs in the top of
the inning and Lyon didn't have an answer in the bottom
half.
Scots' starter Brian Carr
pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed seven hits and three
earned runs. He struck out only one and walked two.
Closer Nick Salahub (2-1) suffered his first loss of the
season in 2 2/3 innings of five-hit relief. Salahub
struck out two and walked none.
Cox drove in a pair of
runs with a double and Nick D'Amico picked up the third
RBI on a groundout in the Scots' three-run sixth inning.
