MAYFIELD, Ky. --
Sam Neal hit two more home runs and brought his two-day
total to five in Lyon College's 11-6 victory over the
Mid-Continent Cougars on Friday during the two teams'
TranSouth Conference regular-season finale.
Neal also singled twice
and drove in five runs. The Lyon outfielder's total for
the series added up to eight hits and 13 RBIs. Neal
leads the team with 10 homers and 40 RBIs.
Second baseman Justin
Brown also came up huge for the Scots and collected a 5
for 6 day with a homer, four singles and a double.
Brown's five-hit outing gave him 161 hits in his career,
placing him in eighth place on the school's career list.
Shortstop Garry Richards
went 3 for 5 with three stolen bases and Drew Kellums
had a homer and a double. Kellums' two-hit day gives the
senior 164 hits and moves him ahead of Steven Wright
(2005-06) into sixth place on the Lyon College all-time
hit list.
The Scots improved to
27-18 overall, evened their record to 11-11 inside
conference play and swept the Cougars in the three-game,
regular-season series. In addition, the win gave head
coach Kirk Kelley his 494th career victory.
Derek Bond (5-5) got the
win with five innings of work. He struck out five and
walked none. Closer Nick Salahub pitched the final two
innings and whiffed four.
