Neal blasts 3 HRs in
doubleheader sweep
of Mid-Continent
MAYFIELD, Ky. --
Sam Neal's big day at the plate helped the Lyon College
Scots to a 12-1 and 10-1 twinbill sweep of the
Mid-Continent Cougars Thursday in TranSouth Conference
action.
Neal combined for four
hits, eight RBIs and three homers in the doubleheader.
Neal crushed three homers and picked up five RBIs in
game one. In game two, Neal drove in three more runs for
an encore. The three homers gave Neal a team-leading
eight this season.
Drew Kellums also was 5
for 7 in the doubleheader with a triple, a double and an
RBI. Kellums hit total gives the senior 162 hits for his
career, moving him past former Scot Jose Rivas for
seventh on the school's career list.
The two wins move Lyon to
26-18 overall and 10-11 in the TranSouth Conference with
one game to play in the regular season.
Lyon's sweep also inches
head coach Kirk Kelley toward his 500th career win. The
Scots head coach, in his 16th year at the held, picked
up his 492nd and 493rd career wins.
Scots' lefty Brian Carr
(5-1) earned the game-one win on the mound for Lyon,
pitching four innings with six strikeouts.
Lyon's game-two starting
pitcher Justin McGarity (7-4) broke a personal
three-game slide with five innings and five strikeouts.
McGarity's victory gave him 26 wins in his four-year
Lyon College career, tied for second with LouisRaptopolous (2000-03) on
the school's all-time list.
