HENDERSON, Tenn. --
Freed-Hardeman Lions' starter Javier Gomez handcuffed
the Lyon College Scots with a two-hit victory in a 4-1
decision in TranSouth Conference play.
Lyon outfielder Zac
Wallace's 10-game hit streak also came to an end at the
hands of Gomez, who struck out eight and walked just one
for the victory.
Derek (3-3) suffered the
loss for Lyon, lasting 3 2/3 innings. He allowed all
seven of the Lions' hits, four earned runs, walked one
and whiffed three.
Scots' pitcher Matt Bell
hurled 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, hitless relief.
Drew Kellums and Josiah
Hass had one hit apiece for Lyon.
Lyon sinks to 20-11
overall and 5-5 in the TranSouth. Freed-Hardeman, ranked
No. 24 in the latest NAIA poll, improves
to 22-8 and 8-3.
The Scots salvaged a
weekend split with the Lions, since the third game in
the series was rained out.
