LEBANON, Tenn. --
After a 4-0 Saturday loss to the Cumberland Bulldogs,
the Lyon College Scots bounced back to collect a
TranSouth Conference doubleheader sweep of the Bulldogs
on Sunday.
The Scots (22-13 overall,
7-6 in the TranSouth) won the first game, 6-4, in nine
innings and stopped the Bulldogs, 5-4, in game two.
Cumberland falls to 26-16 overall and 8-8 in league
play.
Lyon's two wins gave head
coach Kirk Kelley his 488th and his 489th career
victories. The Scots play again against Harding
University on Tuesday at Searcy, Ark.
Drew Kellums picked up
three hits in Sunday's twinbill and drove in five runs
for the Scots. The Lyon first baseman homered, tripled
and doubled in the two games.
Sophomore closer Nick
Salahub shut the door on both ends of the doubleheader,
saving his fourth and fifth games of the season. Salahub
whiffed four in 2 2/3 innings pitched during the day.
Scots relief pitcher Matt
Bell (2-0) was the game-one winner, pitching two innings
in relief with two strikeouts. Lefty starter Brian Carr
went six innings and struck out six in a no-decision.
Derek Bond (4-3) won game
two for Lyon with a six-hit, three-strikeout performance
in 5 1/3 innings of work. He also walked one and allowed
four earned runs.
