Lyon reserves lead
game-two comeback in
doubleheader split
BATESVILLE, Ark.

A six-run fourth inning and a two-run double by Justin
Cunningham led the Lyon College Scots to a 9-8 victory
over the Bethel Wildcats Sunday in game two of a
TranSouth Conference doubleheader.
Lyon (15-4, 2-2) lost game one 2-1 and fell behind 6-0
in game-two. Scots head coach Kirk Kelley then pulled
his starters and inserted his reserves, who keyed a
nine-run rally for a come-from behind victory.
Cunningham finished game two 1-for-1 with a run scored
and three RBIs. Pitcher Matt Bell (1-0) collected his
first victory of the season, pitching 4 1/3 innnings of
four-hit relief in the place of game-two starter Justin
McGarity and reliever Matt Creamer.
Other game-two heroes included Scots' third baseman
Aaron Thornton, who drove in three runs with a double in
the fourth, and right fielder Matt Hill, who went
2-for-3 with an RBI.
In game one, Derek Bond (2-1) pitched a comple-game,
seven-inning outing, but suffered his first loss of the
season. Bond allowed six hits, walked one and struck out
two.
The Scots only collected three hits in game one,
including an RBI double by third baseman Andy Schatzley.
