MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Five Lyon College Scots baseball
players – Drew Kellums, Justin Brown, Zac Wallace,
Justin McGarity and Nick Salahub – earned second-team
All-TranSouth Conference honors according to a release
from the conference office.
Lyon
College center fielder Nick D'Amico was also named to
the TranSouth Gold Glove squad.
The
all-conference selections and the gold glove honor were the first ever
all-conference honors for each
of the honorees.
Zac
Wallace, a sophomore outfielder from Prairie Grove,
Ark., is currently first in the TranSouth Conference
with a .407 batting average. The Scots' outfielder also
has 26 RBIs and has a .424 on-base percentage.
Brown, a
senior second baseman from Armorel, Ark., is second in
the TranSouth Conference with a .401 batting average.
The senior has collected 4 HRs and 39 RBI. Brown is
currently tied for seventh on the Scots' career hits
list with 163.
Kellums,
a senior catcher/first baseman from Paragould, Ark., has hit
.352 with 5 HRs and 29 RBIs in 2008. The Paragould
native is currently sixth on the Lyon College all-time
hits list with 164.
McGarity,
a senior starting pitcher from Jonesboro, Ark., is 8-4
so far in 2008 with two shutouts and five complete
games. The right-hander has posted a 4.16 ERA and is
ranked third in the conference with 74 strikeouts.
McGarity is second on the school's all-time victories
list with 27 and is fourth on the Scots' career
strikeout list with 157.
Salahub,
a sophomore closer from Phoenix, Ariz., is carrying a
2-2 record and is second in the league with a
school-record tying 7 saves. The power pitcher has a
3.25 ERA and has notched 39 K's in 27.2 innings pitched.
D'Amico, a junior from
Riverview, Fla., has 112 putouts, six outfield assists
and only one error this season, while notching a .992
fielding percentage. The junior center fielder has also
stolen 20 bases, good for fifth place in the conference
and first on the team.
