JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Lyon College Pipers lost their
second straight doubleheader in three days when the
Union University Lady Bulldogs took a twinbill sweep --
4-0 and 5-4 -- Monday evening in TranSouth Conference
play.
Lyon (8-27
overall and 7-15 in the TranSouth) has lost five
straight and seven of its last eight. Union improves to
19-8 and 10-4.
Game One
Union
pitcher Amy Chatham dominated game one with a one-hit
shutout of the Pipers. Chatham struck out one and walked
none in seven innings of work.
Pipers'
hurler Tenequa Martin suffered the loss. Martin walked
four and allowed four earned runs in seven five-hit
innings.
First
baseman Taylor Morgan (North Little Rock, Ark.) had
Lyon's only hit in game one.
Game Two
Lyon fought
Union to a 4-4 standstill through eight innings, but
Union's Brooke Laws doubled home the game-winning run in
the bottom of the ninth inning to finish off the
doubleheader sweep.
Both teams
combined for 28 hits during the extra-inning affair. The
Lady Bulldogs outhit Lyon 18 to 10, including a
game-high four hits from right fielder Michelle
Albonetti.
Right
fielder Mychelle Gregg had a team-high three hits and
second baseman April Wright drove in two runs for the
Pipers. Morgan and Kiley Parker had two hits apiece.
Martin
(4-14) suffered the loss in three innings of relief in
place of starting pitcher Holly Geis.
Chatham
(12-2) picked up the win in relief of starter Bethany
Burnett.
