BATESVILLE, Ark. -- The Lyon College Pipers
suffered their fourth and fifth consecutive losses in
6-3 and 14-3 defeats to the Union Lady Bulldogs Tuesday
in TranSouth Conference play at the North Complex.
Lyon sinks to 5-14
overall and 4-4 in TranSouth games this season. Union
improves to 6-5 and 3-3.
Union won game one in
extra innings when first baseman Ashley Blankenship
launched a three-run homer over the fence in the top of
the eighth innning to break a 3-3 tie.
Candice Thompson,
Michelle Albonetti, Lindsey Landreneau and Ashley
Walters each had two hits among Union's 12 game-one
hits.
Shortstop Abbey Canon had
two hits and an RBI to lead the five-hit Lyon offense.
Game one starter Tenqua
Martin (3-6) suffered the loss. The freshman from
Taylor, Ark., allowed 12 hits and struck out two in
eight innings of work.
Union's Amy Chatham (4-2)
earned the complete-game win. The Lady Bulldog pitcher
struck out eight and allowed five hits, while walking
three.
In game two, Union put
together a pair of big innings -- a five-run first
and a six-run sixth -- to power the victory.
Union collected 17 hits
in game two, led by Chatham and Blankenship with two
hits apiece.

Stephanie Hernandez (1-0) took the win in three innings
of work. Piper pitcher Taylor Morgan was stuck with the
loss.
