BATESVILLE, Ark. --
The No. 6 Trevecca Nazarene Lady Trojans charged past
the Lyon College Pipers 9-1 in a run-rule shortened game
and then slugged it out in a 12-8 win on Saturday during
a TranSouth Conference doubleheader sweep.
Lyon drops
to 7-22 overall and 6-10 inside the TranSouth
Conference. Trevecca improves to 21-3 and a perfect 10-0
in league play.
Game one was
dominated by victorious TNU pitcher Brittiany Johnson,
who hurled five innings of three-hit ball with 13
strikeouts.
Phenix
Butler had two hits for Lyon, while teammate Taylor
Morgan had an RBI single.
Pipers
pitcher Tenequa Martin (3-11) was stuck with the loss.
Martin allowed 12 hits and nine runs (six earned). She
struck out two and walked two.
In game two,
Lyon scored eight runs over the first two innings and
took an 8-5 advantage. But the Pipers failed to score
again over the balance of the seven-inning game while
TNU reeled off four unanswered runs.
Lyon had
eight hits in game two led by first baseman Natalie
Fuqua and second baseman April Wright. Fuqua homered,
singled twice and drove in three runs. Wright doubled,
singled and drove in two runs. \
Morgan (3-6)
suffered the loss in 5 2/3 innings of work. She allowed
12 hits and 11 earned runs.
