Olivet Nazarene edges
Lyon College in doubleheader
PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The
Lyon College Pipers dropped a doubleheader to Olivet
Nazarene by equal 2-1 counts Monday on a gulf-coast road
swing at West Florida University.
Lyon (6-19) drops its
fourth straight this season and its seventh in its last
eight games. Olivet Nazarene (8-3) has won six of its
last seven.
The Pipers lost game one
in extra innings despite outhitting ONU 5-4. With the
game tied at one, Olivet scored the game-winning run in
the bottom of the eighth.
Second baseman April
Wright had two hits in game one for Lyon. Pitcher
Tenequa Martin (3-9) suffered the loss in eight innings
of work. Martin struck out six and walked six, while
allowing four hits.
In game two, the Pipers
were one-hit by Olivet and lost again by a 2-1 count.
Lyon again led 1-0 headed into the top of the seventh,
but gave up two runs to ONU for the deciding factor.
Shortstop Abbey Canon had
Lyon's only hit.
Pitcher Holly Geis (1-5)
took the loss. Geis gave up six hits, struck out one and
walked zero.
Lyon finishes its spring
break road trip at West Florida against Drury University
on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
