BATESVILLE,
Ark. -- The Martin Methodist Lady RedHawks relied on its
pitching in game one and a combination of hitting and
defense in game two to earn a TranSouth Conferenece
doubleheader sweep of the Lyon College Pipers Saturday
at the North Complex.
The Lady
RedHawks won game one 3-1 and blanked the Pipers, 4-0,
in game two.
Lyon fell to
8-25 overall and 7-13 in league games.
Martin
Methodist, ranked No. 18 in the latest NAIA softball
poll, moved to 25-4 and a perfect 14-0 in conference
play.
Lady RedHawk
pitcher Sally Gale struck out eight and walked one in
seven complete innings to earn the victory.
Lyon had
seven hits in the first game, but left 11 runners on
base. Taylor Morgan (North Little Rock, Ark.) and
Natalie Fuqua (Martin, Tenn.) led the Pipers with two
hits apiece.
Lyon's
Tenequa Martin suffered the hard-luck loss, scattering
nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts in seven
complete innings.
In game two,
Martin rapped out 10 hits and scored four of its six
runs in the top of the fifth.
Lyon notched
just five hits in the game-two loss thanks to some
stellar Lady RedHawk defense and seven shutout innings
from pitcher Nicole Curtis. Curtis walked three and
struck out four in seven innings of work.
Taylor
Morgan suffered the loss in game two, giving up all 10
hits while walking three and striking out two.
