MAYFIELD,
Ky. -- Twenty-seven hits powered the Lyon College Pipers
to a 10-6 and 7-4 doubleheader sweep of the
Mid-Continent Cougars Monday in the two teams'
regular-season TranSouth Conference finale.
Lyon (15-34
overall, 13-19 in conference play), finished fifth in
the regular season conference race and will open
TranSouth Conference Tournament play as the No. 5 seed
on Wednesday at 1 p.m. against No. 4-seed Union
University. Mid-Continent falls to 14-38 and 8-26.
The Pipers
earned 16 hits in game one led by Pipers' designated
player Natalie Fuqua. Fuqua throttled the Cougars for
three hits – including a homer – and drove in three
RBIs. Phenix Butler and Abbey Canon also earned three
hits each. April Wright had two hits and three RBI and
teammate Kim Overbey picked up two hits and drove in two
runs.
Tenequa
Martin (7-20) earned the game-one win with seven innings
of seven-hit ball.
Lyon pitcher
Taylor Morgan (7-8) starred in game two, earning the
victory on the mound with seven nine-hit innings and six
strikeouts. At the plate, the North Little Rock, Ark.
native had a homer, a single and two RBIs. Canon,
Butler, Kiley Parker and Angelique Armenta had two hits
apiece.
