BATESVILLE, Ark. --
The Lyon College Pipers took Christian Brothers
University to the limit in their home opener Monday, but
fell 3-2 in game one and lost 8-5 in 10 innings in game
two.
Lyon drops to 0-4 this season, while CBU improves to
5-1.
Game One
The Pipers trailed 3-0 headed into the bottom of the
seventh inning, but a two-run single by catcher Kim
Overbey sliced the lead to just one.
The rally ended there, however, as Christian Brothers
went on to retire the side and record the victory.
In addition to Overbey's 2-RBI single, Taylor Morgan,
Natalie Fuqua and Kiley Parker each had a hit for the
Pipers.
Tenequa Martin (0-2) suffered the loss for Lyon despite
striking out six and walking three in six innings of
six-hit work.
Game Two
Lyon a 3-2 lead after five innings
of play in
game two when Abbey Canon drove home a run with an RBI
single.
CBU answered
with a run in the top of the sixth and both teams
remained knotted up at three until the top of the
eighth.
Christian
Brothers scored a run in the top half of the eighth to
take a 4-3 edge, but Canon came up big again with
another run-scoring single to tie the score at 4-4 after
eight frames.
The scenario
replayed itself in the ninth as CBU drew first blood to
take a 5-4 cushion, only to see Lyon fire back to tie
with a run in the bottom of the inning.
CBU finally
put the game away in the top of the 10th with three runs
and retired the Pipers in the lower portion of the
inning for the win.
