McKENZIE, Tenn. --
The Lyon College Pipers salvaged their fifth TranSouth
Conference doubleheader split of the season in a
Wednesday meeting with the Bethel College Lady Wildcats.
Lyon (8-23
overall, 7-11 in TranSouth play) won game one 4-3 in an
eight-inning contest and lost game two by an identical
4-3 count.
Game One
A strikeout
gem by Tenequa Martin and two runs in the bottom of the
eighth inning sparked the Pipers to victory in game one.
Martin
(Taylor, Ark.) struck out a season-high 11 batters and
scattered nine hits across eight innings for the win.
Martin improves to 4-11 this season.
Offensively,
the Pipers got two hits from leadoff hitter Phenix
Butler and a solo homer from April Wright.
Game Two
Bethel
returned the clutch hitting in game two to salvage the
split, picking up a run in the bottom half of the
seventh inning to seal the victory.
Lyon's Holly
Geis (1-6) suffered the loss on the mound, allowing 13
hits and four earned runs. She walked two and struck out
one.
