Dr. Yonts joined the Lyon faculty in 2002. Her areas of scholarship include child development, particularly personality and social factors that influence childhood injury rates; media influences on children's beliefs about firearms; and sensation seeking and risk taking in children. She has served as director of the Nichols International Studies Program and chair of the Faculty Personnel Committee.
