Presbytery of Arkansas meeting

Feb. 15-16, 2008

Approximately 250 people came to Batesville Feb. 15-16 for the Presbytery of Arkansas meeting at Lyon College. Presbytery of Arkansas members attended workshops and worship services, conducted training, led book discussions and roasted and toasted retiring General Presbyter Bill Branch. The Presbytery of Arkansas meets three times a year — February, June and October.

The Presbytery of Arkansas is a governing body of the Presbyterian Church (USA) with 93 congregations, one Korean fellowship, one Laotian ministry and one new church development. The organization consists of all the churches and ministers of the Word and Sacrament in the northern two-thirds of the state with the exception of a few counties in the northeast corner of the state and the county contiguous to Memphis, Tenn.

Lyon College, founded in 1872 by the Presbyterian Church, continues its affiliation with the Presbyterian Church (USA) through the Synod of the Sun, which includes the Presbytery of Arkansas.

Visitors to the meeting brought gifts to help with the Independence County Habitat for Humanity house. Lyon College students are helping with the housing project.

Presbytery members register for the meeting. Approximately 250 people from all over the state attended the event.
