This e-newsletter is designed to give you information about what's going on at Lyon College. High
school athletes encouraged to contact Are you a high school student who’s not ready to hang up the uniform? Consider Lyon College as an avenue to continue your athletic career. The recruitment process is nearly unknown to most high school athletes, resulting in a lot of students missing out on a great opportunity, and possible scholarship money as well. Lyon makes it easy for interested high school athletes to contact its coaching staff and arrange for a recruit trip.
Greek life
continues to thrive on Lyon campus; The 2008 spring semester started off with two of the most important events of Greek life on the Lyon College campus: Recruitment Week for the sororities and Rush Week for the fraternities. January 20 was filled with excitement as the first of three parties was held for the young women going through recruitment. Student Activities: What's Up in February? This month, Lyon's Student Activities Council (SAC) has
several events planned for students. SAC events are free weekend
entertainment for students. on Nichols International Studies trip Twelve Lyon College students recently returned from a trip to London, England, where they saw some of the best theater the city has to offer. The students traveled to London with Lyon College Theatre Professor Michael L. Counts as part of the Nichols International Studies Program.

Bound Math-Science program The Upward Bound Math-Science Program at Lyon College in Batesville is now accepting applications for the 2008 Summer Session. This is a six-week residential program for high school students who will be completing the 9th, 10th or 11th grades this spring. The program will be in session June 7 through July 18 for seniors, and June 14 through July 18 for sophomores and juniors. Completed applications must be postmarked by March 14. The snowfall last week provided an opportunity for Lyon students to enjoy some wintertime activities, such as building a large snowman on the Quad. The snow didn't last long as warmer temperatures melted it away quickly, but it was fun while it lasted.
Lyon's Japanese program receives grant The Freeman Foundation has awarded Lyon College a grant of $25,000 in order to enhance the study of Japanese language and literature. The Japanese program at Lyon College has received grants from the Freeman Foundation since 2003. With the support of the Foundation, the college offers a minor in Japanese, established a tuition exchange program with Akita International University in Japan and hosts an array of cultural events. Successful Preview Day held Jan. 26 Lyon College hosted abut 75 prospective students and a total of 175 guests Saturday, Jan. 26, for the final Preview Day of the academic year. The Enrollment Services Staff extends its appreciation to all faculty, staff and students for their assistance with the event. More photos from Preview Day. Visiting Fellow in Creative Writing announced M. Elaine Mar, winner of the 2008 Lyon College Visiting Fellowship in Creative Nonfiction, will visit Lyon in February for a public lecture and reading. She also will present a workshop on writing memoir. Mar has lived an ever-changing life. She went from living in a crowded Hong Kong tenement to attending college at Harvard to becoming a professor and an accomplished author. The public lecture begins at 11 a.m. Feb. 12 in Bevens Music Room. The public reading will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in Bevens. Convocation on academic cheating set Feb. 28 An expert on academic cheating will share his research on the subject with Lyon College students this month. Dr. Don McCabe, professor of management and global business at Rutgers University, will speak about academic cheating at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in Nucor Auditorium on the Lyon College campus. The event, sponsored by the Convocations Committee, is free and open to the public. T Tauri Film Festival entry deadline is April 1 The T Tauri Film Festival is currently accepting submissions for the 4th annual festival, set for July 14-26 in Batesville, Ark. The competition is limited to junior and senior high school students. Entries are accepted and awards are given in seven categories: Drama, Comedy, Documentary, Music Video, Public Service Announcement, Animation, and Experimental. Entries must have been produced since April 2007. |
