Auditions scheduled for spring play;
'The Heidi Chronicles' to be presented 

Auditions for the Harlequin Theatre’s spring play, The Heidi Chronicles, will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 in Holloway Theatre. Scheduled callbacks will be Feb. 13. Rehearsals begin Feb. 18. Performances will be April 10-13. There are roles for 8-10 women and three to six men. Scripts can be read in the Green Room in Holloway Theatre. Technicians for lights, sound, costumes and crew are needed. Contact Dr. Michael Counts for more information.

2008 Visiting Fellow in Creative Writing,
M. Elaine Mar, to visit Lyon
this month

M. Elaine Mar, winner of the 2008 Lyon College Visiting Fellowship in Creative Nonfiction, will visit Lyon in February for a public lecture and reading. She also will present a workshop on writing memoir.

Mar has lived an ever-changing life. She went from living in a crowded Hong Kong tenement to attending college at Harvard to becoming a professor and an accomplished author.

The public lecture begins at 11 a.m. Feb. 12 in Bevens Music Room. The public reading will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in Bevens.

Convocation on academic cheating
set for Feb. 28; Don McCabe to speak

An expert on academic cheating will share his research on the subject with Lyon College students this month. Dr. Don McCabe, professor of management and global business at Rutgers University, will speak about academic cheating at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in Nucor Auditorium on the Lyon College campus. The event, sponsored by the Convocations Committee, is free and open to the public.

Freeman Foundation awards grant
to Lyon College for Japanese program

The Freeman Foundation has awarded Lyon College a grant of $25,000 in order to enhance the study of Japanese language and literature. The Japanese program at Lyon College has received grants from the Freeman Foundation since 2003. With the support of the Foundation, the college offers a minor in Japanese, established a tuition exchange program with Akita International University in Japan and hosts an array of cultural events.

Lyon College to participate in Jonesboro Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans service on Feb. 10

Lyon College will participate in a Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans service at the First Presbyterian Church of Jonesboro. The service will be at 10:50 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 10. A complimentary potluck lunch will follow the service. The Lyon Pipe Band will lead the procession of the tartans and perform during the service. The church is located at 719 Southwest Drive in Jonesboro.

Upward Bound Math-Science program accepting applications for summer term

The Upward Bound Math-Science Program at Lyon College in Batesville is now accepting applications for the 2008 Summer Session. This is a six-week residential program for high school students who will be completing the 9th, 10th or 11th grades this spring. The program will be in session June 7 through July 18 for seniors, and June 14 through July 18 for sophomores and juniors. Completed applications must be postmarked by March 14.
