January 14, 2008 Lyon to host annual West Endowed Concert Jan. 31 in Bevens Music Room The sound of music will echo throughout Lyon College as the school hosts its annual West Endowed Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in Bevens Music Room. In a program titled "The Magic of Sixty-Nine Strings," harpist Elisabeth Chardonet, double bassist John Dahlstrand and the Rockefeller Spring Quartet will play works of Bottesini, Brahms, Caplet and Ravel.

College to celebrate Diversity Week On Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Black Student Association will host a reception at 7 p.m. in Bevens Music Room. Marcos Napa, a native of Lima, Peru, and Teresa Maldonado will present an Afro-Peruvian music and dance program at 7:30 p.m. at Holloway Theater. Napa will give the history of the arrival of black people to Peru as well as introduce popular dances and instruments. Library art exhibit to honor Joseph Beuys A new art exhibit will open at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the Mabee-Simpson Library. The exhibit, “Beuys Will Be Beuys,” (pronounced "bo-eze") will feature 120 artists from 30 countries whose works will be shown on a rotating basis through June, according to John Chiaromonte, who will introduce the exhibit.

College to host Preview Day Jan. 26 Lyon College will host its third Preview Day for high school seniors and juniors and their families on Saturday, Jan. 26, on campus. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. at the Lyon Building on the north side of campus. Free mental health screenings available for students either in person or online Lyon College is offering a free mental health screening for students for a range of common emotional conditions that often go undiagnosed and misunderstood. Counseling and Health & Wellness will be offering free, confidential screenings for depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. The screenings and information sessions are being held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 31 in the Morrow Building. Students also can call Diane Ellis, director of counseling, at 307-7284 for more information. Batesville Choral Society begins rehearsals for upcoming concert The Batesville Choral Society, under the direction of Lyon College Assistant Professor Joel Plaag, has resumed rehearsals. The choir is open to any adult in the community, and will rehearse every Sunday night at First Presbyterian Church from 7-9 p.m. in preparation for their next concert, on Sunday, April 4. |
