Newport church celebrates 175 years

First Presbyterian Church of Newport celebrated its 175th anniversary at services on Sunday, Oct 7. Pictured above (from left) are Dr. Walter Roettger, president of Lyon College, and who served as liturgist; the Rev. Alan Ford, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Newport; the Rev. Bill Branch, General Presbyter, Presbytery of Arkansas; and, Keith Burt, representative of the Synod of the Sun. The Synod of the Sun serves Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas and is comprised of 11 presbyteries with 900 congregations containing 200,000 Presbyterians.
