Students try out new disc golf course

Walking across the Lyon College campus, one might notice a few additions scattered across the landscape in the form of 18 numbered, yellow-topped metal baskets.

Just what are these yellow-topped baskets and how did they get here? Well, the baskets are actually holes on a golf course. A disk golf course, that is.

Disc golf has arrived on the Lyon College campus, providing a fun new diversion for both Lyon students and the members of Batesville community at large. More

Budy fills summer with teaching other writers

Lyon College's Writer-in-Residence Andrea Hollander Budy spent the summer teaching workshops, giving lectures, and sharing readings of her work at writers' conferences in Arizona and California, and teaching a two-week intensive course on the Lyric Essay to graduate students in the MFA Program in Creative Writing at Northern Michigan University, which brings three Distinguished Writers to its campus each summer. In August she was one of only three master poets invited to teach in the annual Frost Place Seminars at the home of well-known American poet Robert Frost in Franconia, New Hampshire. Lyon graduate Michael Russell, who presently lives in Maine, drove six hours roundtrip to be in Budy's audience the evening she read her poems in Frost's barn. The first weekend of September, Budy will be one of three featured poets at the Sotto Voce Poetry Festival in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. For a schedule of Budy's forthcoming appearances, please check her website: www.andreahollanderbudy.com.
