Lyon receives $20,000 from Walker Foundation

Lyon College has received $20,000 from the Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation, Inc. to provide need-based scholarships for students.

The Willard and Pat Walker Scholarship Fund will be used for first-generation students. Two students will receive $2,500 each for four consecutive years.

Lyon College Vice President for Institutional Advancement Tim Bruner said the college is grateful for the foundation's help in establishing need-based scholarships.

"Lyon College is fortunate to have the support of the Willard and Pat Walker Foundation in its ongoing effort to assist more first-generation students," he said. "Those students typically enter their college experience at a disadvantage, and Lyon College has historically been successful in providing the mentoring needed to encourage first-generation students to persist to graduation. With the support and encouragement from the Walker Foundation, we will be able to accept even more first-generation students and serve them at an even higher level."
