Forbes.com ranks Lyon College as
one of "America's Best Colleges"


Lyon College is on a select list of "America's Best Colleges," according to Forbes.com.

Forbes.com, in conjunction with Ohio University economist Dr. Richard Vedder and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity (CCAP), last week released its first ranking of "America's Best Colleges," ranking Lyon College 114th out of the nation's 4,000 colleges and universities. More

Workers complete summer renovation projects

The hundreds of students that roam the Lyon College campus may be absent during the summer, but the campus is far from a ghost town.

Workers of all kinds and heavy equipment have been milling about the campus this summer rushing to wrap up several ongoing improvement projects before students return for fall semester classes.

In addition to the usual summer upgrades, the college has tackled four large renovation projects - a new softball field, revamped soccer field, a second fountain and a digital key card access system.

Lyon welcomes new, returning students

Lyon College is welcoming new and returning students to the campus this month with its annual "Red Carpet Days" Aug. 21-25.

Red Carpet Days consists of events and activities that prepare students for life at Lyon and is designed to help students settle in, feel welcome and get acquainted with faculty, staff and other students.

Students move in to their dorm rooms Thursday, Aug. 21. The first day of classes will be Aug. 26.

Phi Mu members attend convention

Phi Mu Fraternity held its 50th National Convention this summer in Orlando, Florida. Jordan Lupo, Phi Mu President of the Epsilon Rho Chapter, and Mary-Margaret Nester, Epsilon Rho Alumna Member, attended the Conference on behalf of the Lyon College Chapter. At the Convention, the Epsilon Rho Chapter of Phi Mu was fortunate to receive numerous awards and honors, including: Children's Miracle Network 2nd in the Nation for Most Donations per Member Award in 2006, Children's Miracle Network Award for Sustained Performance in Giving, Chapter GPA of 2.75 or Above for two years, Chapter GPA Above the All-Women's Average for two years, Academic Honor Roll, Total Award, Master Craftsman Award for donations to Phi Mu Foundation, Continuous Open Bidding Award, and the Most Improved Finances Award for Area III.

Pipe Band rocks concert

Some of the Lyon College Pipe Band members joined local rock band Doghouse on stage to open for Night Ranger at the White River Water Carnival.

Jeanette Begley Fountain to be dedicated

The formal dedication of the Jeanette Macek Begley Fountain will be held on Friday, August 22, 2008, at 4 p.m. The fountain is located north of Brown Chapel and near the entrance to the Small Chapel. The fountain honors the late Jean Begley, mother of Peggy Roettger, director of alumni and parent services. Tom, Mary, and Jim Begley of Cato, New York, will be on hand to thank members of the community who helped to make this dream at reality. Additionally, Brad Hegeman of Nabholz Construction will be cited for his firm's donation of brick, mortar, and construction experience. All members of the Lyon Community are invited to attend this special dedication honoring a very great lady.
