Library adds laptops to serve students, community members with disabilities The Mabee-Simpson Library on the Lyon College campus has two new laptop computers installed with educational software and voice recognition software to serve students and community members with physical and learning disabilities. The educational software is a comprehensive reading, writing and learning software solution for struggling readers, including individuals with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, attention deficit disorder or those who are English language learners. The speech recognition software assures that the manual aspect of typing or impaired vision do not hinder a person's ability to write. More Dee leaving as coach of volleyball team
"The decision to leave Lyon College has been the toughest decision I have ever had to make," said Dee. "For the past four years, Lyon Volleyball has been my life and my passion. While Lyon Volleyball will never leave my heart, my life must go on to pursue personal goals outside of the volleyball realm that I have made for myself. This team will be competitive for years to come due to the hard work and tradition that these girls and the teammates before them have built here at Lyon Volleyball. Their talent and dedication to Lyon and to each other are boundless." Lyon student sails the Bering Sea During the month of July, Maryland Organic Geochemistry and Ecology Laboratory (MOGEL) member and Lyon student Charlie Morgan will be on an oceanographic research cruise in the Bering Sea aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Icebreaker Healy. He will be collecting krill samples in support of an NSF-sponsored project to understand the effects of climate change on Bering Sea Ecosystems. Morgan is an undergraduate student at Lyon College, visiting MOGEL for the summer as part of the Maryland Seagrant REU program. He will be blogging about his experiences on the high seas. Tomoko Iwasaki, Miho Yonaga, Ran Tsurumaki, Kazuya Watanabe, all students who studied at Lyon College, spell out "Lyon" for a photo. Meiko Peek is currently teaching Intensive Japanese at Akita International University, Lyon's exchange institution. It was there she met up with four of the seven students who studied at Lyon. T Tauri presents three free public programs The T Tauri Film Festival and Movie Camp will present three free public programs for students, parents, and teachers to increase awareness of the current state of youth media in Arkansas and around the world on July 21, 23 and 25. The programs will take place Monday, July 21, and Wednesday, July 23, at 7 p.m. in Room 103 of Independence Hall, University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB); and Friday, July 25, at Morningside Coffeehouse, 616 Harrison Street, also at 7 p.m. Admission to all programs is free; all programs are suitable for all ages. |
