Each year, Lyon College rolls out the red carpet to welcome new students and their families to the series of events and activities which prepare them to join the Lyon community as the fall semester begins. This schedule provides the roadmap for five days designed to help students settle in, get acquainted and feel welcome. Lyon College has hired Ray Green, former head coach of NCAA Division I Manhattan College, as the Pipers' new head volleyball coach. "Ray is a great fit for Lyon College," said Lyon College Athletic Director Kirk Kelley. "He's a great coach, he's got a lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of passion for volleyball. He was the best of a great pool of candidates that we had to choose from and was very highly recommended." The head coaching position became available when Justin Dee took a job with an Alabama prep school. More Lyon alum, media relations manager win several Arkansas Press Association writing awards Lyon alum Jon Trobaugh '05 received third place for in-depth series reporting and second place for agriculture reporting in the Arkansas Press Association writing contest. Trobaugh also received an honorable mention in the news story category. is work appeared in the Batesville Daily Guard. Media Relations and Web Content Manager Chandra Huston won first place for in-depth series reporting for her work at the Baxter Bulletin in Mountain Home. The winning story, "Jacob's Journey," featured a glimpse into the life of Jacob Worlow as he battled cancer a year ago. Worlow will attend Lyon in the fall and play basketball for the Scots. Huston also won first place for tourism coverage at the Baxter Bulletin and third place for education coverage at the Batesville Daily Guard along with Trobaugh and Daily Guard Assistant Managing Editor Andrea Bruner.
Peel laid the groundwork for Lyon’s fast-pitch softball program and recorded a record of 15-36 in his first year as head coach in 2008. Peel’s team finished fifth in the 10-team TranSouth Conference with a 13-19 mark. The University of Memphis graduate had served as the Lyon College Scots' baseball hitting coach prior to his appointment as the head softball coach. A search is under way for a new softball coach. |
