Alumni Association selling limited edition Christmas ornaments

The Lyon College Alumni Association has commissioned a limited edition of Morrow Hall Christmas ornaments. These are the first in a series of collectible ornaments and next year Brown Chapel will be featured.

Cast in pewter and American made, these collector items are priced at $35 of which $1 will be donated to the Annual Scholarship Fund. The proceeds of the sales will help to underwrite Alumni Association endeavors in the coming year.

7 Lyon Kappa Sigma members win Scholarship Leadership Awards

Seven members of Lyon College’s Lambda Iota chapter of Kappa Sigma have received 2007 Scholarship Leadership Awards from the national fraternity. This is believed to be a record number of recipients from Lyon College. It represents $10,000 worth of scholarships and a certificate of merit. Three of the Kappa Sigs from Lyon received $2,500 each, the highest possible endowed scholarship the fraternity awards.

AT&T grant supports Lyon's efforts to provide help to students with disabilities

The AT&T Foundation – the corporate philanthropy organization of AT&T Inc. – has announced that it has awarded more than $8,300 through the AT&T Excelerator competitive technology grant program to support Lyon College and its efforts to add special technology software and hardware for students with physical and learning disabilities.

Lyon College to participate in workshop
on Transformation of the College Library

Lyon College has been selected as one of the participants in The Transformation of the College Library Workshop organized by the Council of Independent Colleges and the National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education, with financial support by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The workshop is also sponsored by the Association of College and Research Libraries and the Council on Library and Information Resources. It will take place March 27-29, 2008, in Baltimore, Md.

Afro-Peruvian percussionist and dancer to present program at Lyon on Jan. 22

As part of Diversity Week 2008, Marcos Napa, a native of Lima, Peru, will bring a program of Afro-Peruvian music and dance to Lyon College on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Holloway Theatre.

Napa, a percussionist and dancer, is artistic director of Pachamama Peruvian Arts, organized by the Center for Traditional Music and Dance of New York. He is also an instructor of Afro-Peruvian dances. He was a dancer and percussionist with the famed Ballet Peru Negro for many years.

Mabee-Simpson Library offers amnesty for Lyon students with overdue books

Since 1990, the staff at Lyon College's Mabee-Simpson Library has offered students a chance to get out of paying fines for overdue books while offering "Help and Hope" to area residents in need.

Camille Beary, assistant director of the library, said each year during spring and fall finals, the library forgives all outstanding fines if the student brings in a non-perishable food item to be donated to Batesville Help and Hope.

Reminder: Holiday reception at Bradley Manor is Wednesday

On Wednesday, Dec. 12, faculty and staff are invited to join President Roettger, Peggy and Dan at the traditional holiday reception at Bradley Manor from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to celebrate the season. Please join them for a bit of holiday cheer!
