Alumni Association selling limited edition Christmas ornaments

The Lyon College Alumni Association has commissioned a limited edition of Morrow Hall Christmas ornaments. These are the first in a series of collectible ornaments and next year Brown Chapel will be featured.

Cast in pewter and American made, these collector items are priced at $35 of which $1 will be donated to the Annual Scholarship Fund. The proceeds of the sales will help to underwrite Alumni Association endeavors in the coming year.

The ornament will be mailed in time to adorn your Christmas tree or to give as a gift to your special Lyon person.

Annual Christmas Festival begins Dec. 4 with dinner, concert by College choir

On Tuesday, Dec. 4, Lyon College will hold its annual Christmas Festival. The evening’s events will begin with a buffet supper in Edwards Commons from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Dinner is free for faculty, staff, and their immediate families. Others are invited at a cost of $8 for adults and $4 for children 6-12. At 6:00 p.m. there will a special appearance by Santa Claus. Please let our Christmas Elf, Cindy, (cgillaspie@lyon.edu) know if your child/children will want to visit with Santa. We will also be giving away door prizes (you must be present to win).

Holiday Reception: On Wednesday, Dec. 12, faculty and staff are invited to join President Roettger, Peggy and Dan at the traditional holiday reception at Bradley Manor from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to celebrate the season. Please join them for a bit of holiday cheer!

Lyon College Concert Band to present
its first holiday concert on Dec. 3

The Lyon College Concert Band will present a holiday concert on Monday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Chapel. The concert will be in conjunction with the student recital and men's chorale concert that evening. This semester marks the first opportunity in several years for students to perform in a concert band setting.

Lyon College Recyclers sponsor contest

A new group on campus, the Lyon College Recyclers, sponsored a recycling contest in celebration of America Recycles Day on Nov. 15. Students and Greek organizations collected as much recyclable material as possible. The judging occurred on Friday, Nov. 16. Writer-in-Residence Budy has been busy
giving readings of her work around
U.S.

Lyon College's Writer-in-Residence Andrea Hollander Budy has been busy this fall. Besides teaching, she has given readings of her poems at bookstores and libraries in Fayetteville, Conway and Little Rock, and she has given readings, workshops and presentations at the University of Iowa, the University of Tulsa, and Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. This week she will also deliver a poetry reading at the International Poetry Forum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lyon College again honored with
NAIA's Champions of Character Award

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has selected the Lyon College Athletic Department as one of its Champions of Character institutions for its work during the 2006-07 school year.

The Champions of Character Institutional Award is given annually to member institutions that represent the true spirit of competition through the NAIA's five tenets: respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship.

Mabee-Simpson Library offers amnesty for Lyon students with overdue books

Since 1990, the staff at Lyon College's Mabee-Simpson Library has offered students a chance to get out of paying fines for overdue books while offering "Help and Hope" to area residents in need.

Camille Beary, assistant director of the library, said each year during spring and fall finals, the library forgives all outstanding fines if the student brings in a non-perishable food item to be donated to Batesville Help and Hope.
