Alumni Association selling limited edition Christmas ornaments The Lyon College Alumni Association has commissioned a limited edition of Morrow Hall Christmas ornaments. These are the first in a series of collectible ornaments and next year Brown Chapel will be featured. Cast in pewter and American made, these collector items are priced at $35 of which $1 will be donated to the Annual Scholarship Fund. The proceeds of the sales will help to underwrite Alumni Association endeavors in the coming year. November 19, 2007 Annual Christmas Festival begins Dec. 4 with dinner, concert by Lyon College choir On Tuesday, Dec. 4, Lyon College will hold its annual Christmas Festival. The evening’s events will begin with a buffet supper in Edwards Commons from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Dinner is free for faculty, staff, and their immediate families. Others are invited at a cost of $8 for adults and $4 for children 6-12. At 6:00 p.m. there will a special appearance by Santa Claus. Please let our Christmas Elf, Cindy, (cgillaspie@lyon.edu) know if your child/children will want to visit with Santa. We will also be giving away door prizes (you must be present to win). At 6:30 p.m., the Lyon College Concert Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Joel Plaag, will present a program featuring a variety of Christmas songs, and other inspirational music for the season, along with the Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s Messiah in Brown Chapel. Following the concert (weather permitting), the traditional Christmas tree-lighting will be held on the Chapel steps. Holiday Reception : On Wednesday, Dec. 12, faculty and staff are invited to join President Roettger, Peggy and Dan at the traditional holiday reception at Bradley Manor from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to celebrate the season. Please join them for a bit of holiday cheer!'Festival of Lessons and Carols' to be presented Dec. 2; Flute Choir to perform The annual “Festival of Lessons and Carols,” sponsored by the music department of Lyon College, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Christian Science Society of Batesville, College and 18th streets. Admission is free and the public in invited.

College Concert Band to present The Lyon College Concert Band will present a holiday concert on Monday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Chapel. The concert will be in conjunction with the student recital and men's chorale concert that evening. This semester marks the first opportunity in several years for students to perform in a concert band setting. Holocaust victim to speak at Lyon College A woman whose parents died in a World War II Nazi prison camp will visit Lyon College tonight to share her story of the impact the Holocaust had on her life. The program, at 6:30 p.m. in Nucor Auditorium, is free and open to the public.

calling alumni and friends More than 16 students have been calling alumni and friends of Lyon for the annual Phone-A-Thon that benefits the annual scholarship fund. Starting on Monday, Nov. 12, students have been reaching out to Lyon's family and report that not only are they enjoying conversing with those who have come before them, but also are appreciative of the generosity they have shown.

moot court team makes it Lyon's moot court team achieved its best result since the American Collegiate Moot Court Association inaugurated a regional qualifying system three years ago. At the Southeastern Regional Tournament Nov. 9-10, hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga., Lyon, along with teams from Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts and Virginia, competed for tournament honors and invitations to the national tournament.

Clayton lectures about the art John J. Clayton, the second author in Lyon College’s Contemporary Writer’s Series this year, lectured about the art of writing to a group of students and faculty Tuesday, Nov. 13. His key advice: “Wrap yourself up in the scene you are writing—focus on it.” Stinson retroactively presented chair to commemorate endowed professorship Dr. Russell Stinson, the Josephine Emily Brown Professor of Music, was presented with an official Lyon College chair at the Faculty Assembly meeting Tuesday. |
