Green chosen to take over Lyon's volleyball reins

Lyon College has hired Ray Green, former head coach of NCAA Division I Manhattan College, as the Pipers' new head volleyball coach.

"Ray is a great fit for Lyon College," said Lyon College Athletic Director Kirk Kelley. "He's a great coach, he's got a lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of passion for volleyball. He was the best of a great pool of candidates that we had to choose from and was very highly recommended."

The head coaching position became available when Justin Dee took a job with an Alabama prep school.

"I am very excited about joining the staff," said Green. "On my initial visit to Lyon, everyone was very friendly and more than willing to help out. It resembles what I want from my team Ð a willingness to work together to achieve a goal. I look at every opportunity as a new adventure where the sky is the limit. I'm excited to meet the team and get it going."

Green graduated from Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va., in 1991. Before Lyon, Green served as head volleyball coach of Manhattan College from 2004-07. Green led the Lady Jaspers to a semifinal appearance in the Mid Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament in 2006. He sports an overall collegiate record of 39-76 overall and posted an 18-26 mark in MAAC play. Green had four players earn All-MAAC honors during his stay at Manhattan and another 15 were named to the MAAC All-Academic team.

Green was an assistant volleyball coach at Rutgers University from 2001-04. At Rutgers, Green served on a staff that helped spark the 2003 women's team to 25-6 record and a New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship.
