Lyon Community Orchestra
to perform concert Sunday

The Lyon Community Orchestra will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13, in Brown Chapel, in a program featuring string orchestra classics. The concert, "A Celebration of Strings" replaces the program, "Music of Heros and Mythology," originally scheduled in the cultural events calendar. Barbara Reeve is director of the orchestra and of string instruction at Lyon College.

"A Celebration of Strings" features music written for strings from Vivaldi to Bartok.  A movement from Symphony no. 25 by Mozart, featured in "Amadeus" and three pieces from "Carmen", Romanian Folk Dances by Bartok, and the memorable Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 by Bach give the program plenty of variety in style.

Joining the LCO, school children from Batesville Middle and Batesville Junior will play with the community orchestra on two numbers: "Arrival of the Queen of Sheba" by Handel, and "Lullaby" by Hofeldt.

The concert is preceded by the North Arkansas Youth Orchestra, performing in Bevens Music Room, directed by Andrea Steward at 2 p.m. The NAYO is for school aged children 8-13. Both concerts are free and open to the public.
