Record 7 Lyon Kappa Sigs win Scholarship Leadership Awards from national fraternity

Seven members of Lyon College’s Lambda Iota chapter of Kappa Sigma have received 2007 Scholarship Leadership Awards from the national fraternity. This is believed to be a record number of recipients from Lyon College. It represents $10,000 worth of scholarships and a certificate of merit.

Three of the Kappa Sigs from Lyon received $2,500 each, the highest possible endowed scholarship the fraternity awards. Only four chapters out of more than 200 had three or more brothers receive endowed scholarships and only one of those four chapters had more than three. Lambda Iota was among the top chapters in the nation, both in number of awards and total dollars.

Lambda Iota brothers received the following awards:

Daniel Haney, $2,500 Thomas L. Wiper Award

Glenn Ritter, $2,500 W.W. Wycker Award

Rob Frank, $2,500 Wallace W. Baumann Award

Drew Dunham, $1,000

Kris Koelemay, $1,000

Seth Johnson, $500

Ryan Young, Certificate of Merit

The Trustees of the Endowment Fund announced the winners of the 2007 Scholarship Leadership Awards earlier this month. The national fraternity received more than 1,100 scholarship applications.
