SCARF winners announced at forum
Samantha Lopez won first place in the Student Creative Arts and Research Forum (SCARF) April 17.
Lopez earned the top honor with her research paper "Expectancy Effects on Memory Performance and Affect." Lopez performed a study to see if often-advertised energy drinks have an affect on memory. She told test subjects they may or may not be given an energy drink when in reality they received a natural drink that resembled an energy drink. Some reported being able to study better, while others reported no change.
Lopez said she plans to continue her research into this subject.
Ashley Dorsey won second place for her creative writing piece "Dead to the World." Dorsey said the piece came from an assignment where she had to write a story about death.
Third place went to Sarah Fendley for her paintings called the "Clarity Series." Fendley used different artistic methods to capture women's ever-changing body image.
