Lyon to offer P.E. minor beginning next fall

Lyon College has announced a new physical education minor is available for students enrolling next fall.

According to Dr. John Peek, Lyon's vice president for academic services, Tracy Stewart-Lange has been named the physical education program's director and will coordinate the incorporation of the new minor into the College's academic program.

"Coach Lange holds a master of science degree in education, with an emphasis in sports administration," said Peek. "Four other members of the Lyon coaching staff with master's degrees will offer one or more of the courses required for the minor in physical education."

The minor covers 18 hours of study including Heath and Wellness, First Aid and Care of Athletic Injuries, History and Principles, Kinesiology and Motor Learning and Control. To round out the minor, students can choose from three courses: Theory of Coaching, Organization and Administration or Special Topic in Exercise Science.

"The College's commitment to health and wellness is demonstrated by the addition to the institution's academic offerings of a minor in physical education," Dr. Peek said. "This program complements the College's long-standing general education requirements, including an array of activity courses."
