A speech contest for students taking Japanese was held on April 14. Eighteen students researched the topic, "my Japanese hero," in English, and then presented their findings in Japanese. The winners are as follows:

Grand Prize Award: Ken Watanabe by Snezana Jovanovic

Best Research Award: Green Tea Catechins by Sarah Dunkerson

First Place: Pokky by Joshua Jackson

Second Place: Hayao Miyazaki by Mary Francis and Haruki Murakami by Joshua Looney

Third Place: Hideki Yukawa by Anelisa Wood
