Carolyn "Carole" Frances Harris, 59, of Batesville died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at her home. She was the wife of Gary Harris, professor of theatre at Lyon College.

Dr. Walter Roettger, president of Lyon, said: "For more than six years, Carole and Gary were the faces and hearts of Lyon to countless freshmen and their families while Gary served as Resident Faculty Mentor of Spragins House. She was a warm and gracious hostess and exceptional chef. Together, she and Gary tended to the hungers of mind, body and soul of our entering students."

Carole and Gary have one son, Josh, currently a Watson Fellow studying in central Europe.

She was born in Bristol, Virginia on June 18, 1948 to Patrick Dennis Fagan, Jr. and Rosamond Gemmel Fagan.

She was a cook at Wildwood Independent Living in Batesville and enjoyed working with the elderly. She loved cooking for the residents and helping them when they needed her. She really enjoyed the "Girl's Day Out." Carole loved being outside listening to the birds singing and just nature itself. She also loved to listen to her husband sing gospel music by the Gaither Vocal Band. She collected cookbooks and had hundreds of them. Carole was a wonderful wife and mother and was very supportive of her husband while he accomplished his degrees and became a professor of theatre. Carole was raised a Roman Catholic but later went with her husband to the Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Marcel Harris of Batesville; her mother, Rosamond Gemmel Fagan of Bristol, Virginia; son, Joshua Brandon Harris of Sofia, Bulgaria; one sister, Maggie Mailman of Calgary, Canada; one brother, Patrick Dennis Fagan III of Richmond, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. Her father preceded her in death.
